Trimble's New Data Collector Streamlines Surveying Process
with Intuitive Touch Screen and Voice Prompts

TSCe Controller Increases Productivity

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 16, 2001 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) today introduced the TSCeTM Controller, the latest addition to the Trimble ToolboxTM of Integrated SurveyingTM solutions. The TSCe is a powerful handheld data collector that uses sight, sound and touch to allow surveyors to conduct multiple tasks quickly and accurately.
The TSCe Controller works in conjunction with Trimble GPS survey systems, Trimble Total Stations and other third-party Total Stations. The Controller runs most effectively using either the new Trimble Survey ControllerTM version 10 or Tripod Data Systems' (TDS) Survey Pro software.
This revolutionary, fully integrated solution enables surveyors to perform a variety of tasks simply by touching the screen. With its large graphic display and generous memory, surveyors can view survey data on a real-time map. Surveyors can also take existing mapping and design data into the field and view as a background map as they survey. When using Trimble Controller version 10, surveyors can then take the information directly from the map screen and store it in the same job file-providing them with immediate access and full control of their project data at all times. Additionally, the Trimble's TSCe Controller can access the Internet and email on-site using an external modem or connecting to a network.
The Trimble Survey Controller software's innovative ability to record sound allows the contractor to detect problems as quickly as they occur through voice prompts and intuitive menu selections which speed data collection and stakeout. The rugged controller also switches seamlessly between GPS and Total Stations, including full support for robotic operation.
"This new functionality translates into increased productivity for our survey customers since complete control is now literally right at their fingertips," said Bryn Fosburgh, division vice president of survey for Trimble's Engineering and Construction Division. "As we leverage the combination of Trimble's GPS knowledge with Spectra Precision's conventional instrument expertise, the expanding Trimble product line continually offers enhanced features that allow surveyors to work faster and more efficiently."
Trimble set the industry benchmark for developing survey controllers for high performance surveying. Based on the Windows CE operating system, the new TSCe not only runs Trimble Survey Controller Software and TDS Survey Pro software, but will also handle many other applications that support Microsoft Windows CE.
Trimble's TSCe Controller is now available through the Engineering and Construction Division dealer network.
