Leading European Fleet Management System Provider Selects Trimble

TRACKER Network Adds Trimble GPS Location Capability

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 31, 2002 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that TRACKER Network (UK) Ltd has selected the Company's Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for its next generation TRACKER® Communicator, a leading vehicle management and telematics system available in Europe.
The TRACKER Communicator is produced through a manufacturing relationship between TRACKER Network (UK) Ltd and Celestica, one of the world's largest electronics manufacturing service companies. The system offers fleet managers and field-based operations improved efficiency in areas such as customer service, vehicle fleet management and utilization, monitoring cargo in transit, driver and vehicle security through location capabilities.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with Trimble, the leader in GPS technology," said Peter Crinson, product development manager of TRACKER. "Using Trimble's innovative FirstGPS technology enables us to produce a smaller, more tightly integrated and cost efficient product. As a result, TRACKER Communicator is now far more efficient than other market competitors."
Using GPS and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular technology, the TRACKER Communicator provides fleet operators with information about a vehicle's location and travel route. Information is instantly accessible through a range of monitoring options including individual software, Internet access via PC or WAP enabled mobile phones or telephone voice reports. The Communicator's extensive reporting capabilities improve scheduling, reduce mileage and travel times, and help identify excessive cost areas. Fleet operators can benefit from lower vehicle running costs, greater efficiency and productivity, and improved customer service.
The TRACKER Communicator uses Trimble's M-Loc™ MPM™ module, a postage stamp-size measurement platform that incorporates the Company's innovative FirstGPS™ technology. The module allows high-volume manufacturers to add GPS location to mobile devices such as cell phones, pagers, PDA's, laptops, smart phones, digital cameras, fleet management and car navigation systems-for less power (34.7 milliwatts), less space and lower cost than previously possible. The M-loc MPM's high level of integration and low component count enables a small 25mm x 25mm footprint.
