Trimble Expands Construction Positioning System with Robotic Total Station for Site Layout Applications

One-Person Operation Cuts Labor Costs and Significantly Increases Job Productivity

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 17, 2006 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) today announced the Trimble® SPS700 Robotic Construction Total Station for use with its Trimble LM80 Layout Manager. The advanced Trimble SPS700 Robotic Total Station, when used with the rugged Trimble LM80 Layout Manager, is a rugged, feature-packed solution that lets contractors take control of their construction layout. The robotic operation allows contractors to perform layout tasks significantly more efficiently than with conventional mechanical systems leading to increased productivity.
The announcement was made today at World of Concrete 2006, one of the world's largest international exhibitions for the construction and construction materials industries.
The Trimble SPS700 Robotic Total Station incorporates new robotic technology for increased speed and longer battery life and offers highly efficient layout capabilities. The total station also features direct reflex (DR) reflectorless distance measuring capability for one-person operation without a prism to measure inaccessible points and minimize manpower.
The Trimble SPS700 Robotic Total Station with the Trimble LM80 Layout Manager offers contractors the following features and benefits:
  • Construction layout specific application programs perform all jobsite layout and measurement tasks for maximum flexibility and cost savings
  • Easy-to-use system designed for contractors shortens learning curve
  • Data storage and built-in checks which eliminate mistakes
  • Very fast one-person operation leads to a dramatic reduction in layout time and manpower costs
  • Rugged design to withstand tough jobsite conditions and reduce repair costs
Trimble Construction Positioning Solutions allow contractors to carry, manage, work with and layout the jobsite blueprint, regardless of the method and instrumentation used in a variety of commercial and residential applications, including:
  • Layout control points on or offset to construction lines
  • Check or tie into property boundaries
  • Layout excavation lines
  • Layout concrete forms and anchor bolts
  • As-built checks
  • Layout control lines on concrete pad for subcontractor use
  • Light topographical measurements for cut/fill balance
The SPS700 and LM80 Construction Total Station System is expected to be available the end of January 2006 through Trimble's worldwide Construction dealer channel.
