Forging a legacy of innovation

Using an integrated, data-driven workflow, Landmark Construction turned a daunting challenge — preparing 1,600 acres of land to host one of the largest EV plants in the U.S. — into a masterclass in efficiency and collaboration, proving that the future of construction is truly connected.

Groundbreaking results

Moving 24 million cubic yards of earth is more than a sitework project; it is a geographic reorganization. For Landmark Construction, "Project Connect" — the massive 1,600-acre EV manufacturing campus in South Carolina — presented a Herculean challenge: level a mountain, fill 120-foot depths and install a subterranean city of utilities, all on a breakneck two-year schedule.

Landmark didn’t just bring heavy iron to the site; they brought a "live-wire" digital ecosystem. By leveraging a fully connected Trimble workflow, Landmark effectively digitized the dirt.

Connected backbone

Standard radio signals couldn't survive the site's 70-foot cuts and mile-wide canyons. Landmark bypassed traditional limitations using Trimble’s Internet Base Station Service (IBSS) and Trimble® R750 GNSS modular receivers. This created a seamless data blanket across the 2.5-mile site, turning over 150 pieces of equipment into mobile data hubs.

Precision at scale

  • Speed: While many contractors celebrate 120,000 cubic yards a month, Landmark’s connected fleet moved up to 70,000 cubic yards in a single day.

  • Automation: Using Trimble Earthworks grade control platform "Autos" mode, machines achieved grade with surgical precision, while Trimble WorksManager software allowed the office to update the master design file across the entire fleet with one keystroke.

  • Modeling: Every one of the 350 storm boxes was modeled in BIM via SketchUp, allowing utility crews to "see" underground before a single pipe was laid.

Aerial intelligence

By flying drones daily and integrating point cloud data into Trimble Business Center software, Landmark could monitor site-wide water flow and material movement in near real-time. This level of visibility — supported by Viewpoint Vista for financial clarity — has kept the massive project on track and on budget.

For Landmark, the secret wasn't just horsepower; it was the power of the connection.
