Grupo Baysa is a Mexican company dedicated to the design, fabrication and erection of steel structures, with 40 years of experience in the construction of steel structures throughout Mexico. Currently, Grupo Baysa has a production capacity of 25,000 tons landed with numerical control machinery linked to Tekla Structures.
They started manufacturing everything manually and at that time they manufactured around 300 tons with 400 people and that was normal, today they manufacture between 25,000 tons (2,000 tons per month approximately) with around 120 to 130 workers automating as much as possible.
Grupo Baysa was the first company to implement Tekla in Mexico, this helped them to be successful and efficient in the creation of their fabrication drawings, today Tekla is the pillar of their detailed engineering process, Tekla was chosen by the company because it allowed them to model in 3D all their steel structures, they knew that it would allow them to reduce the amount of errors during fabrication and assembly.
In the beginning, they had small projects and today they have manufactured and assembled some of the most important projects in Mexico City, nowadays for high profile clients such as Grupo Carso, for whom they manufactured in one project around 24,000 tons in the same job site.
"One of the biggest challenges we faced due to the large request from the client was to manufacture a macrostructure through the world's largest Tekla model ever created, we integrated all the different manufacturing companies joining this huge puzzle into a single BIM model, the large amount of information requested by the client within the different models and the creation of deliverables posed a huge challenge that apparently could not have been done without Tekla".

Workflow optimization
With Tekla Baysa Group can create material quantification lists and proceeds to purchase what the project requires, Tekla helps them to create these reports automatically and ensure quality, they also use the model and reports for control over assemblies, welding and shipments to the job site, it allows them to follow the assembly process; it helps many different areas to reduce the time it takes to manufacture and also reduces the risks.
Being a fully BIM tool, Tekla has allowed us to collaborate at both the engineering and architectural level with other engineering and architectural firms by exchanging information through IFC models, Revit models or even 3D CAD models. Alejandro Garcia - Engineering Department
Its main steel structure projects are shopping centers, mixed buildings, housing, hotels, offices, infrastructure works such as breweries, industrial buildings, steel structures for mines and bridge systems.
Some of the most important structures in which they have been involved are: the 40-story skyscraper Punta Reforma (approximately 190 meters high), the tallest building in Santa Fe (Mexico City), Cineteca Nacional, Teatro Cervantes, among many others.
