This project involves the engineering of a heating furnace with air preheater, platform, and attached support structures.

Engineering (basic and detailed) of the furnaces and associated combustion air preheaters, platforms, and ancillary support structures for the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) in Alexandria, Egypt, including procurement of 10 combustors, 3 blowers, air preheaters, and equipment necessary to ensure that the facility is operating in accordance with safety regulations. The project also includes the procurement of the equipment necessary to ensure that the equipment is operating in accordance with safety regulations.

Challenges and Results

This project posed two major challenges: first, the equipment had to fit into the tight space of the existing plant, and second, the work area was constrained by the project specifications and facility requirements. Tekla Structures' 3D modeling allowed us to accurately understand the pathways that would meet all requirements early in the project, evaluate the advantages/disadvantages of the possible alternatives, and confirm accessibility. accessibility could be verified.

The next challenge was that equipment layout changes that occurred late in the detail required extensive additional design work affecting both structural members and attached support structures. The flexibility of the Tekla Structures model objects allowed the design team to accommodate major changes, reducing the impact on the project schedule and avoiding potential major design and fabrication problems.
