BIM means sharing information with other project members. In other words, players from different sectors, often using different applications. This begs the fundamental question: what's the best way to exchange the maximum amount of BIM model data without losing any useful information?
There are many ways of exchanging BIM model information. It's all a question of knowing the purpose of this information, i.e. its use and target. Where one party is content with an Excel list showing the corresponding parametric data of certain components used, the BIM coordinator would prefer to receive models of all parties in IFC format. As for the modeler, he would prefer to be able to import a colleague's AutoCAD elements into his Revit model.
IFC
Based on an open standard, the IFC file format offers a perfectly clear definition of geometry and is not platform-dependent. While the IFC format is not used for modifying information, it is perfect for exchanging information, especially if parties use different viewers or modeling platforms. With the IFC export function in Revit, for example, you can use parameter mapping to refer to application-specific parameters. To export a number of parameters in IFC format, a user-defined property set can be used in Revit. Stabicad for Revit also includes an IFC export function that exports Stabicad elements in IFC format. As a result, you can share specific data seamlessly with other project members.
STABIPLAN EXPORT AND IMPORT EXCEL
If you simply need to extract data from the BIM model to view or use, an Excel export is sometimes all you need. In Revit, for example, you can export drawings to Excel and share the data with external parties who don't use Revit. With Stabicad's Excel Export tool for Revit, you can export the available parameter values of elements in the model, in the current view or even in a selection of a data file, in different categories. Non-Stabicad users can use the Stabiplan Export and Import Excel application to export data to an Excel file, add or modify the information and re-import the data into your Revit project, with no problem at all.
FROM AUTOCAD TO REVIT, AND VICE VERSA

In a BIM project, there are three methods available for exchanging information. Which method should you choose? It all depends on the agreement. Agreements need to be reached on what information needs to be supplied by all parties, and where and when the data is to be made available. These agreements are included in the BIM protocol. As a result, companies can choose the software package that best meets their needs, while sharing information between the disciplines involved in the project. This is what BIM workflow is all about: sharing the information one person may need to better cooperate and understand the other party. The aim is to achieve greater success together.
