Myco Mechanical, a Pennsylvania-based MEP contractor, has successfully leveraged cutting-edge technology to overcome challenges such as labor shortages, tight budgets and complex project requirements. By integrating innovative tools from Trimble® into their workflows, the company has achieved labor cost reductions of 15-30% in commercial fabrication and plumbing projects.

Faced with a shortage of skilled workers, Myco Mechanical sought technology solutions to enhance efficiency. Traditional Autodesk Revit models required extensive modifications, which led the company to adopt Trimble SysQue, an MEP design tool that facilitates fabrication-ready models within Revit. SysQue provides access to over eight million parts, streamlining drafting and reducing manual work.
To ensure project accuracy, Myco Mechanical employs Trimble 3D laser scanners for reality capture, which is useful for retrofitting older buildings with incomplete as-built documentation. The Trimble X7 3D laser scanner allows teams to scan rapidly, completing up to 80 scans per day. The company also utilizes Trimble robotic total stations for field layout, enabling precise installation of prefabricated components. Trimble Connect™, a cloud collaboration platform, provides real-time access to project data for all stakeholders, further enhancing project coordination and reducing labor costs.

Efficiency enhancements mean projects come in on time and on budget
A key example of Myco Mechanical’s technological advancements is its role in a $73 million renovation and expansion of Interboro High School in Pennsylvania. The project involved upgrading MEP systems in a 50-year-old, 197,000-square-foot building and constructing new additions — all while ensuring minimal disruption to students and staff.
Using Trimble SysQue, the team developed detailed, constructible 3D models and generated fabrication-ready drawings. The Trimble X7 scanner captured existing conditions, allowing for precise coordination before field mobilization. Additionally, the Trimble RTS facilitated accurate pipe and hanger layouts, reducing safety risks and installation time.
They also utilized Trimble ProjectSight, a centralized system for project management, which saved them approximately 45 minutes per day that previously lost to VPN issues, streamlined RFIs, and accelerated drawing turnaround time.

By adopting this advanced technology, Myco Mechanical increased efficiency, reduced costs and improved project execution. The company’s VDC Manager, Tim Libman stated, “Now, we work in one solution, which accelerates drafting and allows us to accomplish more with fewer people.” The company continues to explore new tools and workflows to stay ahead in the industry. “If you’re not moving forward, you’re falling behind,” Libman concluded.
