Summary

Within the fire safety industry, traceability is essential, ensuring a golden thread of data throughout a structure’s lifespan. Isoler is one company who has been benefitting from the bespoke and automated reporting processes offered by Trimble’s Viewpoint Field View software, helping to save time, mitigate risk and ensure compliance.

Established in 1992 and part of the Northern Bear Group, Isoler works across the UK specialising in fire protection, including active and passive systems, fire door maintenance and installation, fire stopping and compliance surveys. Predominantly working in the retrofit market, Isoler’s service has also expanded to include general contracting works.

Josh Watson, Isoler’s Joint Managing Director, said: “When it comes to working in the fire safety industry, delivering traceability and ensuring that everything is recorded thoroughly and made easily accessible for future reference is essential. Not only in terms of legal compliance, on the back of the 2022 Building Safety Act, and delivering the ‘golden thread’ of data but also a moral responsibility.”

Isoler has been users of Trimble’s Viewpoint Field View since 2017, with the software’s Forms function at the heart of the business’s everyday workflows and processes. A cloud-based and off-line solution to replace pen and paper in the field, Field View allows customers to create custom or select from pre-configured forms to capture and share data live on site, without going back to the office.

Speaking about Field View, Josh said: “The software forms a huge chunk of our business and yet we learn something new about it every day! We currently have between 40 and 50 forms in active use across the company. These range from health and safety inspections, toolbox talks and site inspections to installation records, client inductions and van inspections, where the vehicles are handed over to the next driver at the end of a shift.

“As a business, Field View offers us assurances of traceability. We know that everything is logged correctly and stored digitally on the cloud-based system. Our teams can have instant visibility into the progress on site from here in the office, including quality control and installation sign-offs. For our clients, they especially like the client log-in function, where they also have visibility of the works undertaken. This includes the delivery of a professional PDF report at the end of the year, including all work that has been done, details of the systems installed and the exact locations.

“Working within the fire safety industry has its challenges, but Field View provides us with an easier, streamlined process to deliver the level of compliance required by the Building Regulations. We’re not relying on paper forms; everything is available digitally in real-time.

“The ability to customise the software to suit our needs, generate bespoke forms and automate the whole reporting process is hugely valuable. While there are other digital systems available that have been developed specifically for fire protection, being able to make things bespoke to us and our business is a major benefit, especially as we also deliver projects outside of fire stopping. It really is a one stop shop.”
