Aggressive driving and the accidents
that result are significant contributors to the cost
of operation of a mixer fleet.
In addition to the high
direct repair costs involved in an accident, other cost
factors attributable to aggressive driving include:
- Higher Insurance Rates
- Increased Fuel Use
- Tire and Maintenance Costs
- Lost Production Resulting from
Injuries
Driver and vehicle safety are major issues facing the
ready mix industry today. With your fleet on the road
each day, it is difficult to detect unsafe driving practices
until an accident or traffic violation occurs. You need
a reliable tool that enables you to discover and correct
poor driving behavior before it becomes a serious problem.
WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?
Trimble Mobile Solutions, the leading provider of mobile
resource management solutions for the ready mix industry,
understands the problem of driver safety and how it
affects your business operations. The patented DriveSafe
solution provides insight into individual driver behavior
by providing indicators of aggressive driving that allows
managers to monitor and compare driving behavior over
time.
WHAT DOES DRIVESAFE
DO?
Measures the accelerations exerted on the truck during
various driving maneuvers such as turns, starts, and
stops.
- Factors the loaded or unloaded
status in measuring turns.
- Measures average vehicle speed
via high resolution GPS positioning.
- Calculates a score for each
maneuver.
- Reports scores for individual
drivers as well as a composite score.
- Compares individual scores to
the average scores for the fleet.
The Driver Scorecard
DriveSafe contains averages of data
collected both when the truck is loaded and when it
is returning to the plant. Categories include turns,
starts, stops, and speeding. Scores are generated for
each category with 100 being the average for the fleet.
A score of 108, for example, would indicate more aggressive
driving than average.
Score Weighting
- DriveSafe can be configured to best
suit your individual needs by allowing the user to assign
a Score Weighting value to vehicle speed and to each
type of maneuver. For example, the score for loaded
turns may be weighted much more heavily than for unloaded
starts.
DriveSafe Reports
- viewed over an extended period of time, are excellent
tools for supervisors to use in conducting targeted
driver training and counseling programs. There are two
principal reports:
- A tabular Fleet Report provides
scores of various maneuvers plus an overall composite
score for each truck
- A Fleet Chart graphically compares
the composite scores for each truck These reports
can be generated at any time and users may select
a date range for the report as well as which vehicles
are to be included in the report.
DEPLOYING DRIVESAFE
DriveSafe is an add-on feature for
customers using the TrimView™ RM
or TrimView™ AGG mobile resource
management solution. The hardware, already installed
in the vehicle, is automatically configured over the
air. Data is typically collected for at least two weeks
prior to generating reports. For ease of use, reports
are available from the TrimView reporting
menu.
In many cases, drivers just need
to be reminded about certain elements of their driving
behavior. In other cases, drivers need to be trained
to significantly alter their driving style when the
truck is loaded, in order to avoid potential rollover
situations. Either way, the DriveSafe
system is the tool you need to make your fleet safer
and to lower operating costs.
