Trimble GeoExplorer CE Series Goes Wireless with Bluetooth Technology
Rugged GeoExplorer CE Series Adds Windows CE.NET Operating System
for Mobile Mapping and GIS Applications
INNSBRUCK, Austria, Oct. 8, 2003 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that its GeoExplorer® CE series of GPS handheld receivers are now available with Bluetooth® wireless technology and the Microsoft® Windows® CE.NET operating system. These new features provide mapping and mobile Geographic Information System (GIS) users with high-performance GPS field computing and the convenience of wireless connectivity. Productivity is increased not only in the field but also in the office--where field data is immediately available for decision making.
The announcement was made today at ESRI's 18th European User Conference.
The GeoExplorer CE series continues to set the industry standard for integrated GPS and GIS field computing with the addition of Bluetooth wireless technology. Bluetooth capability provides true wireless connectivity and easy data flow between the field and office. Mobile users can access enterprise GIS data, e-mail, Internet Map services, such as ArcIMS, with a cell phone connection. Bluetooth also enables wireless connectivity to PCs, PDAs and networks to share GPS data in the field. In addition, eliminating cables to Bluetooth-enabled peripheral devices allow for better field ergonomics and provide easy connectivity to lasers, cameras and other handheld devices. Field work becomes less complicated and more productive.
The Microsoft Windows CE.NET operating system includes software that increases productivity in the field. The Transcriber handwriting recognition ensures easy text entry and WordPad gives improved word processing capabilities. In addition, Microsoft File Viewers makes viewing PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint® and image files quick and easy.
GeoExplorer CE Series
Trimble's GeoExplorer CE series are versatile, rugged GPS CE handhelds for the GIS professional. A GPS CE handheld combines the power of an open computing platform and a high performance Trimble GPS receiver with integrated Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) capabilities--all in a lightweight handheld.
Featuring advanced color display using Thin Film Transistor (TFT) technology with 16 bit (65,536) color and a multi-stage backlight, the GeoExplorer CE series provides clear and crisp display of full color raster images and vector maps in all outdoor conditions. Additionally, 64 MB of RAM enables users to run GIS software programs faster with larger data sets, maps and background imagery.
With the GeoExplorer CE series, the user can select the option that best suits their needs. The GeoXMTM provides 2-5 meter accuracy. It integrates reliable, real-time corrected GPS into a mobile GIS handheld so users can relocate assets with confidence and fulfill work orders more efficiently.
The GeoXTTM offers all of the features of the GeoXM, plus a submeter receiver and Trimble's unique EVERESTTM multipath rejection technology. The GeoXT is ideal for working in difficult environments such as under canopy, in urban canyons or anywhere high-accuracy data collection and maintenance is required.
For maximum productivity the user can choose Windows CE-based GIS field software such as ESRI's ArcPadTM with Trimble's GPScorrectTM software extension, Trimble's TerraSyncTM software or other purpose-built field software that meets their specific requirements.
