Raytheon Selects Trimble Military GPS for MAGR2000 Program
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 21, 2004 -- Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today that it has received an order for the Force™ 5 GPS module from Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems of El Segundo, Calif. The militarized P/Y code GPS receivers will be embedded in Raytheon's Miniature Airborne GPS Receiver Unit (MAGR2000) for a variety of applications including the F/A-18 Hornet, VH-3D Marine-1 Presidential Helicopter, and the V-22 Osprey.
The announcement was made today at the Institute of Navigation (ION) GNSS 2004 Conference.
"This latest contract with Raytheon and the MAGR 2000 program represents the continuation of a strong collaboration between Raytheon and Trimble," said George Mahoney, Trimble's program manager for the Force 5 family of military receivers. "The MAGR 2000 with Trimble's embedded Force 5 military GPS receiver provides a cost effective upgrade to state-of-the-art military navigation for existing and new aircraft platforms."
In production since 2000, the Force 5 family of receivers provides the very latest advances in military GPS with continued improvements. Most recently Trimble completed qualification of the Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) update to the Force 5GS configuration. Trimble's Force 5GS provides enhanced security plus other advanced functions/performance required in the Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) environment. In addition, the Force 5GS has been selected for the MAGR2000 GRAM SAASM upgrade program.
About the Force 5 GPS Module
Trimble's Force 5 GPS module is a dual-frequency module with Precise Positioning Service (PPS) capability. Designed in accordance with the GPS Receiver Application Module (GRAM) Guidelines, the Force 5 module provides unequaled performance for open architecture military applications and reduces system life-cycle cost compared with existing proprietary solutions. The Force 5 provides military integrators with a fast, economical solution for adding GPS-based positioning, timing and synchronization, and navigation to their high-performance products. It is easily integrated as a stand-alone GPS receiver or coupled with inertial or Doppler navigation systems. In the PPS configuration, the Force 5 corrects for Selective Availability (SA) and uses Anti-Spoof (A-S) augmented by Fault Detection and Exclusion (FDE) in accordance with RTCA DO-229B to protect against satellite system anomalies and spoofing.
The Force 5 has been selected for use in some of the highest performance military applications including: F-22 Raptor, JAS 39 Gripen, MAGR 2000, and C-5 Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) Upgrade.
