ESRI to Resell Trimble's GeoExplorer CE Series
Rugged, Field-Ready Handheld with Integrated GPS Will Feature ESRI's ArcPad
SUNNYVALE, Calif. and REDLANDS, Calif., Aug. 14, 2002 - Building on the companies' strategic alliance to develop mobile Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions, Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) and ESRI, the world leader in GIS technology, announced today that ESRI will begin reselling Trimble's GeoExplorer® CE series with its ArcPad 6.0 mobile GIS software. The GeoExplorer CE series is the world's first Windows CE device with an integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.
The GeoExplorer CE series is a rugged, portable and powerful handheld device. Featuring ESRI's ArcPad 6.0 mobile solution GIS software and Trimble's GPScorrectTM software extension, the GeoExplorer CE sets a new standard for field mapping and mobile GIS applications.
"Together with ESRI, we have been able to develop a complete mobile GIS solution," said Alan Townsend, vice president and general manager of Trimble's Field Solutions Division. "The GeoExplorer CE's rugged design creates a durable GPS platform for enabling GIS activities in the field. It creates the capability to access your GIS and to use the information in the field."
In early 2002, Trimble was selected to participate in ESRI's Corporate Alliance Program. In February 2002, Trimble and ESRI announced the formation of a strategic alliance to develop Mobile GIS solutions. Mobile GIS addresses the needs of field inspectors, maintenance teams, utility crews, emergency repair workers, and other field workers who require timely access to GIS data in the field. Mobile GIS integrates GPS technology, GIS software, and portable, rugged field-ready hardware. To facilitate the exchange of information to and from the field, these innovative solutions leverage advances in wireless technology and the Internet. With mobile GIS, databases become directly available to field-based personnel whenever and wherever information is needed.
"For a growing number of our users, their work constantly takes them out in the field," said ESRI President Jack Dangermond. "What they need is the GIS and GPS tools integrated into a handheld device that can take a beating. Up on a telephone pole, at the edge of a forest fire, in a water treatment facility, the back of a tractor - these are not the places for laptops. Trimble's GeoExplorer CE series takes the GIS out into the field where many of our users need it."
GeoExplorer CE Series
Trimble's GeoExplorer CE series combines the power of Microsoft's Windows CE platform and a high-performance GPS receiver with integrated Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) capability in a lightweight, rugged handheld CE device. Windows CE connectivity gives the advantage of e-mail, Web browsing and access to Web map servers-all from the field.
Users can select model that best suits their needs. For example, the GeoXMTM provides 2-5 meter accuracy and integrates, reliable real-time corrected GPS into a mobile GIS handheld so databases become directly available to field-based personnel whenever and wherever geographic information in needed.
The GeoXTTM offers all the features of the GeoXM, plus a sub-meter receiver and Trimble's EVERESTTM multipath rejection technology. This model is ideal for working in difficult environments such as under canopy, in urban canyons, or anywhere high accuracy data collection and maintenance is required.
