Trimble Offers New Service for GPS Data Processing
GPS Pathfinder Express Gives GIS Users Convenient GPS Data Processing via the Internet
SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 9, 2001 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) introduced today GPS Pathfinder® Express, a new service that allows mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) professionals to process Global Positioning System (GPS) field data online. Now environmental agencies, forestry services, utility companies, local government organizations and other GIS users can take advantage of a high quality GPS data processing service using the Internet.
The announcement was made today at the 21st ESRI International User Conference.
The GPS Pathfinder Express service, developed in conjunction with New Century Software, Inc., provides a convenient solution for differentially correcting GPS field data. Simply submit the data from a Trimble GPS system, and the corrected data is returned in the desired GIS format. And with a subscription, users only pay for the data processing services they need, when they need it.
"We are excited to introduce this innovative new service," said Alan Townsend, vice president and general manager of Trimble's Mapping and GIS Division. "GPS Pathfinder Express is easy to use and reduces training costs, making it an ideal choice for organizations with seasonal work crews who need to get up and running quickly."
The GPS Pathfinder Express service also allows users to send files directly from the field. With a Windows CE device running Trimble's TerraSyncTM software and a wireless modem or cell phone, GPS data files can be submitted from the field to the online service. And the processed data, output in a variety of industry-standard GIS formats, is returned to a single point of contact. This is ideal for organizations with remote field crews where data is stored in a centralized database.
The GPS Pathfinder Express service processes data from Trimble's GPS Pathfinder and GeoExplorer® systems. And Trimble continues to offer the popular GPS Pathfinder Office software. Providing extensive functionality for data display and verification, GPS Pathfinder Office software allows users to process their own data with more advanced quality control and output options.
In addition to the standard GPS Pathfinder Express service, New Century Software also offers custom solutions for online data processing. Using the core GPS Pathfinder Express technology, New Century Software works with GIS managers to develop a solution that meets their organization's specific requirements for data quality control and GIS output.
