Trimble Software Adds Support for GIS Industry Standards
GPS Pathfinder Office Software Now Supports Internet Map Server and MrSID
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 15, 2001 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) introduced today new features to enhance its Global Positioning System (GPS) software for Geographic Information System (GIS) professionalsthe GPS Pathfinder® Office software version 2.80. The new software version supports Internet Map Server imagery and LizardTech Inc.'s MrSID image format, both GIS industry data standards.
With the GPS Pathfinder Office software version 2.80, Trimble's GIS systems have enhanced capabilities for easier, more flexible and efficient data collection and maintenance. Now environmental agencies, forestry services, utilities, local government organizations and other GIS users can take advantage of higher quality data for better decision making.
GPS Integrates with the Internet
Trimble's GPS Pathfinder Office software version 2.80 allows users to integrate local data sources, including GIS and field data, with Internet map data for display, query and analysis. This is made possible using ESRI's ArcIMS and the Open GIS protocol.
Taking advantage of Internet connectivity, users can also transfer data between the field and office using email, facilitating quick and easy communication.
The new software version also includes support for MrSID and JPEG raster imagery. MrSID, the standard image format for GIS professionals, enables unlimited size image files to be quickly downloaded and displayed over local networks and the Internet.
