Trimble Announces New Beacon Software for Maritime Navigation

The New Generation of DGNSS Beacon Software and Platform for Modern Aids to Navigation Technologies

A Coruña, SPAIN, May 28, 2014—Trimble (NASDQ: TRMB) introduced today its new Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) infrastructure software package for marine navigation—Trimble® Beacon. The software provides a flexible architecture for deploying a DGNSS navigation infrastructure to deliver radio-based, continuously operating positioning services for coastal waters, harbor approach and harbor operations as well as inland navigation.

Trimble Beacon software is a solution designed to provide positioning information from multiple GNSS constellations such as GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS and is based on new RTCM and RSIM protocols (preliminary version). Built on the powerful Trimble Pivot platform, the software enables the use of other GNSS technologies such as RTK, Trimble RTX™ and VRS. The use of Trimble RTX technology enables users to quickly establish new beacon sites without a time-consuming site survey. RTX technology allows permanent monitoring of beacon sites that are subject to movement, such as plate tectonic movement or extreme weather conditions. In addition, the use of Trimble VRS® data streams adds a new system resistance against local jamming and spoofing for increased resilience of the service.

The unique modular Pivot Platform freely allows DGNSS service providers to set up their beacon landscape in a variety of system configurations—from a stand-alone DGNSS beacon station to multiple networked DGNSS beacon stations, which can be centrally operated and managed to minimize the maintenance of remote locations.

"Our new beacon software solution is based on 27 years of DGNSS navigation experience and is part of Trimble's ongoing commitment to offer a wide portfolio of solutions for Aids to Navigation (AtoN) and maritime professionals. The solution is specifically designed for the AtoN GNSS service operator who is seeking a modern solution to improve the performance of the service and minimize system maintenance," said Ulrich Vollath, general manager of Trimble Infrastructure Division.

The announcement was made today at IALA-2014-AISM Conference in A Coruña, Spain, the most recognized event for the maritime AtoN community that takes place every four years.

Availability

Trimble Beacon software is expected to be available in August 2014 from Trimble's worldwide Infrastructure distribution network. Visit: http://www.trimble.com/infrastructure/dgnss_navigation.aspx for more details.

About Trimble's DGNSS Navigation Infrastructure Solutions
