Trimble Named Siemens VDO's Supplier of the Year

Trimble to Deliver GPS Components for Siemens VDO's Next Generation
Car Navigation Systems

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 23, 2002 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that the Company has been named Siemens VDO Automotive AG's "Supplier of the Year." The award honors Trimble's high level of service, quality and innovative products.

To determine the top supplier, Siemens VDO judges the company's ability to meet its requirements in several areas: quality, logistics, support and price. Siemens VDO also pointed to Trimble's ongoing innovations and technological contributions in Global Positioning System (GPS) for automotive applications as additional reasons for the award. As one of the world's largest, most respected automotive suppliers, Siemens VDO is known for its stringent quality standards. Trimble was chosen from among the top 25 suppliers.

"We appreciate Trimble's commitment to technical innovation and quality, their high-level of customer support, their ability to meet both our just-in-time delivery requirements and cost targets in increasingly demanding markets," said Bernd Bremicker, Siemens VDO's executive vice president of Purchasing & Logistics. "In addition, we are very pleased with the evolution of our relationship and are continuing to leverage Trimble's wealth of GPS knowledge to provide our customers with the most precise, state-of-the-art navigation system available."

"Many people worked very hard to achieve the solid relationship we have with Siemens VDO," said Dennis Workman, vice president and general manager of Trimble's Component Technologies Division. "It's a total mindset of teamwork, from innovative engineering and manufacturing to sales and support."

Trimble's relationship with Siemens VDO has become a model for their other suppliers. Because of the strength of the relationship, Siemens VDO has also named Trimble to its Supplier Advisory Board, responsible for improving their supplier communication and program administration.

Trimble has worked with Siemens VDO as its GPS supplier since 1992. One of the first automotive electronics suppliers to develop car navigation systems, Siemens VDO systems are in some of the world's most prestigious automobiles including BMW, Peugeot, Rover, Renault, Land Rover and Ford Europe. Siemens VDO car navigation systems are also available to the aftermarket through automotive and electronic retail stores.

Siemens VDO uses Trimble's GPS products in its wide range of car navigation systems, including both high-end multimedia (HEM) systems- for luxury automobiles - and high-volume multimedia (HVM) systems - for mass market distribution.

For the next generation models, Siemens VDO is working with Trimble to increase the value of positioning modules delivered for car navigation use by integrating dead reckoning (DR) capabilities; this capability increases accuracy and reliability under all driving conditions, including inside tunnels, parking garages and dense urban areas. In addition, the next generation HVM system will use Trimble's innovative FirstGPSTM technology, which allows OEMs to easily integrate GPS location capability in mobile products for less power, less space and lower cost.
