Trimble and Callidus Ink Distribution Agreement
3D Laser Scanner Added to Trimble Toolbox of Integrated Surveying Solutions
WASHINGTION, D.C., April 22, 2002 - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with German-based Callidus Precision Systems GmbH to serve as the exclusive worldwide distributor of its Callidus® 3D Laser Scanning system. The laser scanner's innovative technology allows detailed surveys of complex structures to be done in less time than traditional methods. The Callidus 3D Laser Scanner is one of the latest additions to the Trimble ToolboxTM of Integrated SurveyingTM solutions.
The Trimble Toolbox is the most advanced and integrated set of surveying tools available from one company. It is a revolutionary step in changing the way land survey, civil engineering and construction professionals use information technology to enhance productivity and stay competitive.
The announcement was made today at the Spring 2002 Conference of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), an international organization of surveyors, cartographers, geodesists and other spatial data information professionals working in both public and private sectors throughout the world.

Callidus 3D Laser Scanner System from Trimble
The Callidus 3D Laser Scanner is a computerized three-dimensional (3D) laser scanning system with an integrated video camera. The servo-driven system uses a non-contact infrared laser pulse as well as angle and tilt sensors to make accurate 3D measurements of enclosed spaces such as rooms and tunnels. The laser scanner automatically rotates and collects coordinates of as-built conditions in significant detail, and creates precise models of the space.
Unlike other laser scanners on the market today, the Callidus 3D Laser Scanner covers a full field of view, sweeping 360 degrees horizontally and from 90 degrees to -60 degrees vertically. This translates to fewer setups and fewer scans to complete a job. It can measure close to one million points in just 10 minutes and can operate irrespective of lighting conditions. The laser scanner is a Class 1 Laser, which makes it safe to use in public areas.
The 3D measurements are processed with the system's rugged field computer and easy-to-use Callidus Extractor® software. The software is compatible with Trimble's Terramodel® software, which provides the user with a complete, integrated surveying solution, as well as AutoCAD and other modeling software that use DXF coordinate files.
Designed to revolutionize the way surveyors, civil and construction engineers, architects, contractors and facility managers perform 3D measurements, the Callidus 3D Laser Scanner can be used for a variety of applications including: tunnel construction and maintenance; facilities and industrial management; maintenance and monitoring of bridges and highways; building construction, remodeling and monitoring; archeology; and many others.
