SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 18, 1999 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that Steve Berglund, 47, has joined the company as president and chief executive officer. Mr. Berglund brings 20 years of industry experience, most recently serving as president and chief operating officer of Spectra Precision, a survey, construction equipment and machine control company with 1300 employees.
"Steve is known as an energetic, practical and decisive leader and is a natural fit for Trimble," commented Bradford Parkinson, Trimble's acting president and CEO. "He brings a strong technical background with exceptional skills in finance and strategic planning. Steve has successfully led a company of comparable size, and in similar commercial markets to those of Trimble. Mr. Berglund joins Trimble from Spectra-Physics AB, where he served more than 14 years in a variety of senior management positions, most recently as president and chief operating officer of Spectra Precision.
During his tenure as president and chief operating officer, Mr. Berglund successfully led a major restructuring effort to reposition the Company for profitability and growth. Prior to his position as president, Mr. Berglund implemented a number of merger and acquisition activities.
Mr. Berglund received a BS from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Rochester. He began his career as a process engineer at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. He then joined Varian Associates. In 1982, Mr. Berglund was promoted to manufacturing operations manager of Varian's microwave division. In 1985, he joined Spectra-Physics.
