Trimble Expands Product Portfolio in Agriculture
Trimble's Showcases Product Line at World Ag Expo and National Farm Machinery Show
SUNNYVALE, Calif., and LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb 13, 2001- As part of the Company's strategy for the Agriculture Division, Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today an expanded line of products for the agriculture market. In addition to its well-known Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, field management solutions, and guidance and control systems, Trimble is now offering land leveling and water management systems.
"Trimble's acquisition of Spectra Precision has strengthened our leadership position in the agriculture market," said Ron C. Hyatt, senior vice president and general manager of Trimble's Agriculture Division. "We've expanded our product portfolio to provide an even broader range of precision agriculture solutions to better serve our customers."
The announcement was made today at the World Ag Exposition 2001 in Tulare, Calif., and the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky.
GPS Positioning Systems
Trimble offers a variety of high-quality GPS receivers designed specifically for agriculture. Trimble AgGPS® receivers are rugged, easy to install and move between vehicles, and simple to operate. The receivers work with other precision agriculture devices, including yield monitors, application controllers, and portable field computers. Trimble AgGPS receivers include the AgGPS 114, AgGPS 124, AgGPS 132 and AgGPS 214, ranging from submeter to centimeter precision.
Field Management Systems
Trimble field information management systems add reliable field record-keeping and management of site-specific techniques including application coverage logging, variable rate application, soil sampling, field mapping, crop scouting, aerial spraying, and topographic mapping. Trimble's AgGPS field information systems provide users with the information necessary to manage a modern farm operation in today's demanding agricultural climate. Trimble field information management systems include the AgGPS 70 Remote Display and Logger, and the AgGPS 170 Field Computer.
Guidance and Control Systems
Trimble's AgGPS field guidance systems make it possible to apply crop protection products on the ground or from the air, spread fertilizer or lime, till, or prepare seedbeds with accurate swaths, row after row. Whether on tractors, spreaders, spray rigs or crop dusters, Trimble AgGPS fieldguidance systems minimize redundant applications and skipped areas, avoid costly field call-backs and enable users to drive faster and still apply materials more accurately. Trimble offers the AgGPS Parallel Swathing Option, AgGPS 70 Remote Display and Logger, AgGPS 170 Field Computer, AgGPS Autopilot, AgGPS 132 FlightBarTM, and AgGPS TrimFlight 3 system.
The AgGPS Autopilot is a high-performance GPS navigation control system that connects to a tractor's steering system to automatically steer it in consistently straight rows. The system's in-cab display shows field pattern options and operating parameters; the system's features enable drivers to drive straight rows, ensure minimum overlap and gain increased time for in-field operations such as listing, planting, and cultivating. The system also enables simultaneous drip irrigation tape installation and crop bed preparation, resulting in significantly improved productivity and operational efficiency.
Land Leveling and Tile Drainage Systems
Trimble's expanded product portfolio includes several advanced laser land leveling and tile drainage systems for agriculture. Trimble laser systems enable agri-businesses to map their land easily and efficiently to make informed design decisions on how their fields need to be formed and irrigated. The systems also provide automatic elevation control of machines for land leveling, terracing or pond construction. Precision land leveling can result in a significant increase in crop yields by improved water management, often with less water costs. Trimble laser-based systems include the GeoStar™ GPS Surveying, Mapping and Control System; Prinz Albert Surveying, Mapping and Control System; Analog Surveying, Mapping and Control System; and the GCS 21 Controller Area Network (CAN) Grade Control System. Trimble has two software design packages for the water management industry: MultiPlane Design Software, which is used to design fields for land leveling; and Tile Pro Design Software, which is a drainage design tool to help lay out subsurface drainage.
Water Management Resources
Agri-businesses concerned about water management gain significant resources from Trimble's expanded product portfolio. Trimble Land Leveling Systems allow agri-businesses to survey and form the land, in order to gain more uniform water flow over crops; Trimble's AgGPS Autopilot enables precision placement of irrigation drip tape and crop planting. The combined use of these systems increases agri-businesses' ability to manage water resources more effectively and efficiently, resulting in greatly reduced water cost throughout the farming cycle.
Trimble is a leading innovator of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
