While Esri and Trimble have worked collaboratively for a number of years, in early 2002 the two organizations announced the formation of a formal strategic alliance directed at mobile solutions. The alliance brings together Trimble's expertise in field-rugged handheld GPS technology and Esri’s market-leading GIS software to expand the power of an enterprise GIS to an organization's mobile workers. According to Jack Dangermond, President of ESRI: "We believe that by leveraging Trimble's expertise in the field, our users will be provided with more options and new mobile solutions.
